That's a Wrap

I have ended my first year as a libarian. It is a bittersweet time. I am happy for a much-needed rest but will miss the library. I have loved almost every minute of this year -- loved choosing books, planning lessons, seeing the kids enjoy the activities, and figuring out what did and didn't work.

I have learned so many new things, like how to manage Destiny, how to plan for multiple grades (TK-5), how to integrate literature and STEM within 30 minute time constraints. I still have MUCH more to learn!

I am already thinking about new ideas I want to implement next year. I have reflected on my many shortcomings and will be researching ways to fall not quite as short next year. I am planning, creating, and adjusting. I have moved five shelves of books to better assist the kids in making their selections. I have burgeoning ideas that center around "lonely books," "recommendations," and "spotlights."

My first year encompassed: 1 nearly finished inventory, 2 book fairs, 4 family nights, 6 new bee bots, 7 book meetings of Moms' Book Club, 9 parent newsletters, 19 library classes/week, 24 third grade science classes, 32 Lego robotics classes, 140 fish cookies, Library of Things, Book Buddies, Book Battles, 10,995 checkouts, and countless smiles. It has been an amazing fun-filled year! I am preparing for the 2025-26 school year and still loving it in the library!
