Sensory Lab for TK

The TK teachers wanted to bring their kids to our STEM Lab and asked for some ideas of what they could do with 20 four year-olds in 20 minutes. We batted around some ideas and came up with the idea of a sensory lab, since they were studying the five senses in class. We created 10 different stations and decided to run the stations for two weeks, so that the kids could spend a little longer at each station. Below is a list of the 10 stations and then pictures of the stations with and without kids.

Sensory Lab Stations:

  • light table with bag of water beads (2) *It was a fight to keep the adults from this area!
  • bin of shaving cream with small people hidden inside (1 to share) *It was difficult to get the shaving cream off the little people, and I almost changed this station, but the kids LOVED it!
  • lacing cards
  • letter/shape magnets
  • divided tray with small pom-poms and tweezers (2)
  • index card and sheet of sticker dots to use for creating picture (2)
  • bag of soft/hard items to sort (1 to share)
  • lego marble maze (2)
  • box of rice with shapes that need to be sorted (1 to share)
  • bag of wicki stix (2)

This was a hit both weeks. We are already working on our next TK lab -- APPLES!
